Yemeni Forces Down Another U.S. MQ-9 Reaper Drone

Tehran – Yemeni defense forces have successfully intercepted and shot down another U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone, the second such incident in a span of a week. Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Houthi forces, announced this in a statement broadcasted on TV today.

According to Saree, the American drone was targeted with a surface-to-air missile as it carried out hostile surveillance activities over the province of Ma’rib in western Yemen. Earlier on December 28, the Yemeni forces had shot down another MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Al-Bayda province, also using locally-produced missiles.

A senior Iranian diplomat has warned that the U.S. and the UK bear direct responsibility for all dangerous and unforeseen consequences stemming from the regional situation.

The drone attacks come as a response to Israel‘s ongoing aggression in Gaza, where it has killed an estimated 45,541 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 108,000 others since October 7.

Yemeni forces have also targeted Israeli, American, and British ships, effectively closing down the port of Eilat in southern Israel, causing significant economic damage. The Yemeni military has vowed to continue its operations until Israel ends its land and air attacks in Gaza.

The U.S. military has not yet commented on the latest incident.
