Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz: Trump Acknowledges Ukraine‘s Strength for Peace

In a recent interview with t-online, former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz weighed in on the potential endgame of the conflict in Ukraine, particularly with regard to the role of the incoming U.S. President, Donald Trump. Scholz expressed his belief that Trump is committed to ending the war, a stance that aligns with the European perspective, which emphasizes Ukraine’s military prowess as a prerequisite for peace.

Responding to a question about whether he fears Trump might abandon Ukraine, Scholz asserted, "Trump wants the war to end. And I get the impression that he, like us, is convinced that this can only be achieved if Ukraine is strong militarily."

Scholz also expressed confidence in the potential for a coordinated policy towards Ukraine between the U.S. and Europe, as well as between the U.S. and Germany, despite any apprehensions that may exist. This alignment is crucial as the international community works together to support Ukraine’s defense and facilitate a peaceful resolution.

Notably, Scholz also reiterated that he is prepared for another dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He praised the Ukrainian army’s strength and courage in defending the country against Russian forces.
