Howard Stern Returns with HBO Max Deal and SiriusXM Show

Howard Stern is returning to SiriusXM for a new season featuring one live show a week on Mondays, down from his previous schedule of two shows weekly. Alongside the radio changes, Stern has inked a new deal with HBO Max to bring weekly filmed episodes of his program to a global streaming audience starting Thursday, September 17, at 12:01 a.m. PT/3:01 a.m. ET.

Howard Stern SiriusXM Season Launch and Schedule Changes

The upcoming season of The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM kicks off on Monday, September 14. Last year, rumors swirled that the 72-year-old host might retire, prompting Stern to prank his listeners by suggesting Andy Cohen would take over his channel.

With the radio schedule condensing, SiriusXM is overhauling its channel lineup. The Howard 101 channel is leaving the lineup, moving Stern’s content exclusively to Channel 100. Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy will shift from Channel 102 to Channel 101. Additionally, channel Howard 100 will debut Wrap Up Wednesday on September 14, an expanded version of The Wrap Up Show hosted by Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein.

The SiriusXM app is expanding its Howard Stern section to include “Howard Stern Decades,” providing subscribers with on-demand access to archival content from the 1980s, ’90s, 2000s, and ’10s.

The Howard Stern Show Expansion to HBO Max

For the first time, subscribers worldwide can watch regular video episodes of the radio program. HBO Max teamed up with Stern’s production company and SiriusXM to release weekly filmed episodes of The Howard Stern Show on Thursdays, three days after the live Monday radio broadcasts air.

“For years, my SiriusXM show has offered only brief video peeks,” Stern said in a statement. “HBO convinced me to pull back the curtain and let the world watch; the amazing celebrities and musicians who drop by, our staff antics, and my conversations with Robin.”

Executive produced by The Howard Stern Production Co. Inc., the HBO Max series will also feature periodic video extras alongside the adapted weekly shows. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max content, noted in a statement that Stern has fundamentally changed radio and media at large.

Executive Reactions to the New Deal

Leadership at both SiriusXM and HBO Max emphasized the significance of securing Stern’s continued presence across audio and video platforms. Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s president and chief content officer, praised the long-term partnership in a statement.
