Huawei unveiled the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China on September 7, 2026. The new tri-folding smartphone introduces a Kirin 9050 Pro processor, an inward-folding wing-like hinge, and hardware-level privacy protection, with prices starting at 19,999 yuan.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Design and Display Upgrades
The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design features a redesign centered around an inward-folding hinge arrangement. The tri-folding device opens from both sides through a new G-shaped hinge system and measures 3.5mm thick when fully unfolded, expanding to 12.3mm when closed while weighing 299 grams.
The outer screen utilizes a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO panel with a Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 6,500 nits. When fully opened, the device reveals a 10.2-inch flexible OLED internal panel featuring a 3K resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio. The inner panel also features a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra-like hardware privacy-screen. The new HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN features a wing-like tri-fold design that opens from both sides, offering a more intuitive unfolding experience. The design philosophy draws on Chinese aesthetics, with a cloud pattern on the back panel created using Brocade Cloud craftsmanship. It is available in three colors: Purple, White, and Black. The camera ring inherits the iconic Star Diamond Glow design, crafted from Yttrium Crystal and fired at 1,800°C.
Kirin 9050 Pro Performance and LogicFolding Architecture
Under the hood, the flagship is powered by the in-house Kirin 9050 Pro processor, marking the first time Huawei has introduced a new Kirin chip at a flagship product launch in six years. The processor uses a two-layer vertical stacking architecture based on a framework called Tao Law technology, increasing transistor density from 155 MTr/mm² to 238 MTr/mm² without relying on conventional geometric scaling equipment. As the first smartphone to feature the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip, HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN marks the chip’s official entry into mass commercialization.
Overall device performance improves by 42 percent compared to the previous generation, aided by deep collaboration across hardware, software, chips, and cloud services. The design adds vertical interconnects inside the chip to shorten signal transmission paths. Its performance cores reach a peak frequency of 3.1GHz, while the area used by its high-speed global on-chip network data paths is reduced by 55 percent. SRAM operating frequency has also increased by more than 40 percent, according to the company. On the performance side, the Kirin 9050 Pro features Huawei’s Lingxi CPU hyperthreading technology. Huawei says its peak single-core performance is 24 percent higher than the previous generation, while multi-core performance has increased by 52 percent.
Pricing Pressures and Market Rivalry Ahead of Apple

The devices are priced from 19,999 yuan ($2,980), with the top-end version costing 29,999 yuan ($4,470). Sales begin on September 12. Huawei (HWT.UL) said the new chip design delivers greater computing power while using less electricity.
Camera Systems, Battery, and Hardware Privacy
Unlike the Mate XTs and the XT, the new Mate XT 2 has its rear camera setup on the center panel. The setup includes a 50MP RYYB LOFIC main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor size, a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera. It also gets a third-gen Red Maple color sensor. For selfies, the phone features an 8MP camera on the internal as well as cover screen.
Huawei has packed a 5,600mAh battery on the Mate XT 2 that supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The tri-folding phone gets a new G-shaped hinge and has an IP58 and IP59 rating for dust and water resistance, running on HarmonyOS 7 with the Smart Shield Privacy Screen and True-to-Color Camera 3.0.
