"Hypertension Cases Predominate in Kediri City throughout 2024"

Kediri‘s Top Health Concerns: Hipertensi and Diabetes Lead the Pack in 2024

KUBUS.ID – The City Health Department of Kediri has reported that the top health issues in the city in 2024 were largely lifestyle-related. The most prevalent conditions were hipertensi with 18,046 cases, followed by diabetes mellitus with 7,519 cases. Other concerning health issues include:

  • Acute respiratory infections (non-pneumonia) at 6,587 cases
  • Tuberculosis (TBC) at 1,811 cases
  • Dengue fever (DBD) at 247 cases
  • HIV at 235 cases, with patients both from and outside Kediri

Hendik Supriyanto, head of the Disease Control and Eradication Program (P2P) at the Kediri City Health Department, attributes the high prevalence of hipertensi and diabetes to unhealthy lifestyles. He notes that these non-communicable diseases are largely driven by dietary habits and lack of physical activity.

"It’s alarming to see that hipertensi and diabetes are the most prevalent health issues in Kediri," said Hendik. "We believe that these conditions are closely linked to our modern lifestyles, which often involve poor diet and sedentary behavior. Regular exercise and a balanced diet could significantly reduce the risk of these lifestyle diseases."

Hendik emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent these conditions. Regular physical activity and a balanced diet can help improve metabolism and reduce the risk of diabetes, hipertensi, and high cholesterol.
