Wahl explained that the design challenge involved making the controller shape function as a stable seat with the correct ergonomic curve while retaining the ability to tilt dynamically like a physical thumbstick during use.
Additional items draw direct inspiration from hardware aesthetics. According to Metro Mode, the D-pad from the Xbox controller appears in the collection as both a soft cushion and a decorative tray made of polished stainless steel. The lineup also features a reflective display box built for showcasing controllers and collectible figures.
Flexible Storage and Mobility for Modern Living
According to Metro Mode, the Yxstaby range addresses the reality that gaming often takes place in multi-use areas like living rooms and dining spaces rather than dedicated rooms. Philip Dilé, a product developer at IKEA of Sweden, stated that the goal was to create furniture people actually want in their homes rather than items accepted purely out of functional necessity.
To achieve this, the collection includes IKEA’s first movable TV bench on wheels. Users can roll the television to different areas for gaming sessions and store peripherals on the unit’s backside when finished. For households using dining tables as temporary gaming stations, the collection offers a desktop toolbox designed to hold controllers and cables beneath a lid that doubles as a laptop stand, according to Metro Mode.
