Disruption in Oslo‘s District Heating: Frigid Showers on Christmas Eve

Article:

Residents in Oslo woke up to an unwelcome surprise on Christmas Eve – cold showers due to disruptions in the city’s district heating system. Several housing associations have reported that their hot water supply is not functioning as usual.

Hafslund Celsio, the company responsible for managing Oslo’s district heating, confirmed the issue and apologized for the inconvenience. "The fault has been identified and the affected area is currently shut off from the district heating network," a spokesperson said.

Truls Jemtland, communications manager for Hafslund’s district heating operations, told VG that the instability in the system is causing fluctuations in water temperature. "Residents in the affected areas, mainly around Blindern and Ullevål, may experience varying temperatures in their taps and heating. We’re still determining the exact number of households affected," he said.

Asked if residents could expect cold showers throughout the day, Jemtland responded, "Not necessarily the entire time, but it’s possible that the water temperature may fluctuate."

While the issue is not causing a complete loss of heat, it is ruining what should be a cozy and relaxing Christmas Eve for many Oslo residents. Hafslund urges affected customers to stay informed through their website and social media channels for updates on the situation.
