JAKARTA, INDONESIA — The Independent School of Jakarta (ISJ) has secured the top position among British curriculum schools in Jakarta, according to the 2026 British Schools Asia rankings. The index, which evaluates British international schools across the region using a composite of tuition fees and independent reputation signals, also placed the institution at #22 across Asia.

The school, which serves families from more than 30 nationalities, delivers the English National Curriculum from Pre-Nursery through A-Levels. Its current campus in Pondok Indah features a 25-metre swimming pool, a full-size football pitch, a theatre, and specialized science and arts facilities. With tuition starting from USD 9,135, the school maintains a staff-to-pupil ratio of 1:9, utilizing a faculty comprised entirely of UK-qualified teachers recruited from British independent schools.

Eileen Fisher, Head of ISJ, described the ranking as a significant milestone for the institution. “Being ranked the #1 British school in Jakarta and #22 in Asia is independent confirmation of what we set out to build,” Fisher said. “Our pupils are taught by UK-qualified teachers, on the English National Curriculum, to the standards of a UK independent school. This ranking reflects the work of our staff and the families who chose us.”

Significance and Context
ISJ operates under the umbrella of The Schools Trust, a UK charity. The trust’s leadership team has previously overseen schools that achieved top global rankings for A-Level and GCSE results across a network of more than 220 international institutions. As part of their educational model, the trust utilizes its UK estate at Woolverstone Hall in Suffolk, England, to host ISJ pupils for annual residential immersions in British boarding school life. Darren Brown, Founder of The Schools Trust, stated, “Being independently ranked #1 in Jakarta confirms what families at ISJ already know — this is a school built to the highest international standards.”

Looking Ahead
The school is currently expanding its infrastructure to accommodate its growth from age 2 through 18. A purpose-built Senior Campus is scheduled to open in 2028 in Pondok Indah, situated 300 metres from the existing junior site. This future expansion may allow the school to further enhance its specialized offerings, as the new facility is slated to include dedicated science laboratories, art studios, a theatre, and an additional full-size football pitch. As the school continues its expansion, it is likely that its capacity for GCSE and A-Level study will increase, potentially strengthening its position within the competitive landscape of international education in Southeast Asia.
