Headline: Guatemalan Migrant Faces Sex Abuse Charges Involving 5-Year-Old in Florida
A Guatemalan migrant, Nicolás José Francisco, is facing severe accusations after allegedly sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl in Palm Beach County, Florida. The 25-year-old man, currently in jail without bond, was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under 12.
According to reports from Fox News, WPTV, and CBS12, Francisco had worked for the girl’s family for over a year. The victim disclosed the incidents to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. She detailed that Francisco took her to private locations in the house, such as the garage and bathroom, where he inappropriately touched her in two separate incidents.
During Francisco’s interview on January 2, 2025, he initially denied the accusations but later admitted to touching the girl "by mistake" while helping her use the bathroom. However, investigators pointed out that there is no bathroom in the garage, refuting his claim. He later apologized and admitted to inappropriate behavior.
Jibby Ciric, senior director of strategic impact at the Child Counseling Center, spoke with WPTV about the importance of open communication between parents and children regarding inappropriate behavior. She highlighted the need for programs like "Stay KidSafe!" to educate families and empower children and parents to recognize and prevent abuse.
As the case continues, Francisco remains in custody, and authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of children and bringing perpetrators to justice. While he initially suggested bias against his immigration status, the evidence, including the victim’s testimony, supports the charges against him.
