Indonesia is intensifying its vocational training efforts to facilitate medium- and long-term recovery in Aceh and North Sumatra following devastating flash floods. Manpower Minister Yassierli has announced a strategic shift in government priority, moving from immediate emergency aid toward comprehensive economic rebuilding.
Strategic Shift Toward Economic Independence
Through the Center for Vocational Training and Productivity (BBPVP), the government is implementing training programs specifically tailored to post-disaster requirements. These initiatives are designed to enhance entrepreneurship and job skills among affected populations.
Minister Yassierli emphasized that the goal is to improve productivity, allowing local communities to regain their economic independence. He stated that recovery must extend beyond initial relief until communities are fully restored and empowered to rebuild their livelihoods.

The recovery funding is distributed across several targeted initiatives. Vocational training has been provided to 4,516 people in North Sumatra with a budget of Rp16 billion (US$906,000), and 2,438 people in Aceh with a budget of Rp8 billion (US$453,000).

To stimulate local economies, the ministry launched a labor-intensive program consisting of 40 activity packages worth Rp4 billion (US$226,000). These packages are aimed at creating temporary employment opportunities in the disaster-hit regions.
the Independent Worker (TKM) program has provided 400 assistance packages totaling Rp2 billion (US$113,000) to assist establish new small businesses.
