Grippe Cases Surge in Gorj: A Rising Concern
The number of influenza cases in Gorj county has been steadily increasing, sparking concern among local health authorities. According to the latest data, the incidence rate has surpassed the alert threshold, prompting officials to issue a public health warning.
An Uptick in Cases
Gorj, a county in southwestern Romania, has witnessed a significant rise in grippe cases in recent weeks. The latest figures show that the incidence rate has reached 75.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the alert threshold of 35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The sharp increase in cases has put a strain on local healthcare services, with hospitals reporting a rise in admissions due to influenza-like illnesses. The most affected age groups are children under 14 and adults between 15 and 64.
Vaccination Drive Urged
In response to the surge, local health authorities have urged residents to get vaccinated against the flu. "Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against the virus and reduce the spread of the disease," said Dr. Ionut Georgescu, the county’s chief medical officer.
The vaccination campaign, which began in October, targets risk groups such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases. However, health officials encourage everyone to get vaccinated to help curb the spread of the virus.
Preventive Measures
Besides vaccination, health authorities remind the public to take preventive measures such as regular hand washing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
Stay Informed, Stay Safe
As the grippe season continues, it’s crucial for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. By working together, we can help flatten the curve and keep our communities safe.
