iPhone 18 Pro: New Red Color & iPhone Fold Options Revealed

iPhone 18 Pro: A Splash of Red for Apple’s Flagship

Apple may be poised to deliver a long-requested feature for its ‘Pro’ iPhone line: a red finish. Currently in testing, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a “deep red” or burgundy hue is being considered for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This would mark the first time a red option has been available for the Pro models since the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in (PRODUCT)RED.

The potential shift comes after Apple transitioned to an all-aluminum unibody design with the iPhone 17 Pro, offering greater flexibility in color options. This change in manufacturing allows for a wider range of finishes than previously possible.

“Given the success of orange, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company keeps that option around and just adds the red as an additional choice. But red and orange might be a little too close on the color wheel to have both.” – Mark Gurman, Bloomberg

Apple’s current Cosmic Orange color has proven particularly popular, especially in China, leading to speculation that both orange and red could be offered. However, Gurman suggests the colors may be too similar to coexist.

Beyond Red: What About Purple and Brown?

Earlier rumors hinted at potential purple and brown finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro. However, Gurman believes these options are likely variations of the red color being tested, suggesting they may not materialize as distinct choices.

iPhone Fold: Keeping it Classic

In contrast to the potential vibrancy of the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple plans to take a more conservative approach to color options for its forthcoming foldable iPhone. Gurman reports that Apple intends to “stay away from fun colors,” opting instead for traditional space gray/black and silver/white finishes.

This decision likely reflects Apple’s desire to simplify manufacturing for its first-generation foldable device, mirroring the approach taken with the original iPhone X, which launched with a limited color palette.

Why the Restraint for the Foldable?

Launching a new form factor like a foldable phone introduces significant manufacturing complexities. Limiting color options streamlines the production process and allows Apple to focus on perfecting the core functionality and durability of the device.
