At least twelve U.S. Service members were wounded and several tanker aircraft damaged when Iran attacked a military base in Saudi Arabia on Friday.
Two of the troops were seriously wounded, according to a U.S. Official, following the drone- and missile-attack against Prince Sultan Air Base outside the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Satellite images apparently showing damage to the aircraft have been shared online.
Overnight, the defense department in the United Arab Emirates also reported that their air defenses were engaged against rockets, and drones. An air raid siren went off in Bahrain, according to the interior ministry there.
Over 300 Wounded So Far
The latest wave of attacks comes after U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran has been “obliterated,” even as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that “never in recorded history has a nation’s military been so quickly and so effectively neutralized.”
Earlier in the day, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the number of wounded U.S. Service members in the nearly four-week-long conflict has exceeded 300. Most have recovered and returned to duty, while 30 have not yet returned to duty. Ten of them are considered seriously injured.
Multiple Attacks on Bases
The base outside Riyadh has also been targeted by Iranian attacks before. On March 1, Sergeant Benjamin N. Pennington was wounded and later died from his injuries. He is one of 13 U.S. Service members killed in the war that the U.S. And Israel initiated nearly four weeks ago.
Other American bases in the Middle East have also been attacked during the war. Several of them have sustained so much damage that U.S. Forces have had to relocate and find alternative work locations.
