Krakra, Bulgaria – The state’s weakness is laid bare today in the parking lots along the Bulgarian-Rumanian border, spelled out by an opposition MP’s stark Facebook post. Deputy Ivaйlo Mirchev of "Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria" decried the absurdity of truck drivers being diverted to these makeshift parking lots, paying taxes instead of freely entering Rumania.

The controversial measure, Diane, has been criticized for resembling a scene from the 90s, where motorists were subject to forced detours and exorbitant fees. This situation underscores the government’s control problems, with traffic lights allegedly installed and men in hi-vis vests wielding sticks directing trucks, as reported by local outlet FOCUS.

Mirchev lambasted the government’s inability to enforce its authority, asserting, "This is no Shenghen, no Europe – when the government is straw-like, local police are subservient, and the mayor bows down, it leads to this – a return to forced labor from the 90s."

Expressing determination to combat this issue, Mirchev promised to leverage his influence to halt this practice. However, with institutions faltering and chaos reigning, the opposition MP predicts that similar problems will resurface elsewhere, as criminal elements capitalize on the power vacuum.

For now, the border impasse continues, with trucks backed up in the steamy summer heat, drivers angry and desperate for resolution. With each passing day, the question remains: who will intervene and restore order along the country’s key trade route?
