Jayapura Urges Local Communities to Actively Participate in HIV/AIDS Management
The Jayapura City Government in Papua is calling on local communities to actively participate in managing HIV/AIDS in their respective areas. This call comes as a result of the city’s concern over the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS cases.
Penjabat Wali Kota Jayapura Christian Sohilait emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and various communities in handling HIV/AIDS to prevent the number of cases from increasing. As of June 2024, the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Jayapura City reached 8,000.
Sohilait praised the efforts of local communities such as Pelangi Papua, We Care, Iwaja, and Jejaca for their active involvement in combating HIV/AIDS in Jayapura City.
Binton Nainggolan, Secretary of the AIDS Handling Commission (KPA) in Jayapura City, echoed Sohilait’s sentiment, stating that active participation from communities would bolster their efforts to decrease the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the area. Nainggolan also called on related institutions to join forces in addressing this issue.
Looking ahead, Nainggolan disclosed that they will be preparing guidelines for relevant institutions to work together in managing and combating HIV/AIDS in Jayapura City.
