Jordan Skolnick has been appointed as the University of Delaware’s Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, President Laura Carlson announced today. Skolnick had been serving as interim director since March and joined UD Athletics in 2016.
A Foundation for Success
President Carlson emphasized the importance of athletics and recreation to the University’s educational mission, stating that sports instill valuable life skills such as teamwork, goal-setting, and perseverance. She expressed confidence that Skolnick shares her commitment to these principles and will continue to foster excellence within the program.
Skolnick will lead the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ 22 varsity teams, spirit programs, and campus recreation unit. He successfully guided the department through its recent transitions to Conference USA and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), prioritizing collaboration and national exposure.
Looking Ahead
Skolnick’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Delaware Athletics. The program recently achieved a 7-6 record in its inaugural FBS season, culminating in a win at the 68 Ventures Bowl – a rare feat for a program in its first year at the level. It is possible that Skolnick will focus on building on this momentum and further solidifying the program’s position within Conference USA.
Skolnick expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Carlson and the Board of Trustees, and reaffirmed his commitment to student-athlete success, both academically and athletically. He also highlighted the importance of winning championships.
An introductory press conference with President Carlson and Skolnick is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, at the Whitney Athletic Center, before the men’s basketball game. The event will be live-streamed on the department’s YouTube channel.
