Addressing Regional Crises and Relieving Law Enforcement
In 2023, the Bowling Green Police Department alone responded to over 900 mental health crisis calls. Across the 10-county region, officers currently spend an average of 3 to 4 hours per mental health crisis call, a response time the new facility is designed to reduce substantially to let officers return to community patrols.
Comprehensive Components of the Anchor Project
The Crisis Intake Center is just one component of the three-part Anchor Project intended to serve the 25 cities and 27 law enforcement agencies across the region. The physical intake facility incorporates evidence-based design with a 15-person capacity voluntary observation unit and a 6-person capacity involuntary admission observation unit operating around the clock.

Construction Timeline and Future Operations
Following the recent erection of structural steel beams, crews will continue structural and utility work on the facility. The specialized intake center is slated to officially open its doors in July 2027. Eric Sexton, Executive Director of BRADD, noted that the collaborative model brings together multiple community sectors to form a comprehensive solution for the entire region.
