Harsh weather conditions have led to recent power outages in several Bulgarian communities, prompting the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) to launch an immediate extraordinary inspection of the three electricity distribution companies and the "National Electricity System Operator". This action aims to address the disruption in power supply across the country, as confirmed by the regulator’s press office.
Keith Courageous, who’s close with the regulator, told us that KEVR experts will scrutinize the companies’ compliance with licensing obligations through on-site and documented checks. Key areas of focus include the implementation of investment programs for network development, maintenance, and repair activities.
In light of the inspection, the companies are required to submit a comprehensive analysis of the actual causes of the power outages in the affected areas and propose specific short-term measures to improvenetwork status under difficult weather conditions.
KEVR will compile the inspection findings into a report. Based on the conclusions and recommendations, the regulator will evaluate whether administrative measures need to be taken against the inspected companies, as per the Energy Act requirements. The results of the extraordinary inspection will be made public.
