Kiril Petkov: Our Top Priority – Understanding the Fate of the Judicial Authority Act

Breaking: Law for Judicial Power in Focus as PPDB‘s Kiril Petkov Speaks on Botev‘s Birthday

In a significant development, Kiril Petkov, co-chair of "PPDB" (Continuing Change) and MP for "PPDB – Democrat Bulgaria," expressed his stance on the Law on JudicialPower while attending a ceremony marking the 177th birthday of national hero Hristo Botev in Sofia’s Borisova Garden.

Petkov, who was one of the co-founders of the Center for Economic Development, emphasized the importance of the changes in the Law on Judicial Power, stating that it is not acceptable for an acting chief prosecutor to be elected as chief prosecutor for a seven-year term.

The remarks come as Bulgaria prepares for the first meetings of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Issues and the Committee on Budget and Finance on January 7.

Regarding the failed negotiations for the formation of a new government, Petkov commented, "Deyan Peevski’s goal is clear – he wants to run for elections. GERB and the United Democrats have made it clear they do not want to sign the declaration, meaning they do not want to sever their ties with Peevski, and the result is obvious: a better future for Bulgaria will be difficult to achieve while this dependency persists." PPDB, he reminded, did not participate in the negotiations.

GERB-UDDS announced the termination of coalition negotiations, while DB sent a statement expressing their surprise at learning about the decision through the media.
