KLM Flight from Oslo Skids Off Runway, Narrowly Avoids Disaster

A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight bound for Amsterdam was forced to perform an emergency landing at Sandefjord Airport, Torp on Saturday, resulting in significant damage to the aircraft. Fortunately, none of the 182 passengers on board sustained injuries. The incident led to the temporary closure of the airport.

The plane, which had departed from Oslo Gardermoen Airport, experienced technical issues, prompting the pilots to initiate an emergency landing at the nearest available airport, Torp. As the plane touching down, it slid off the runway and onto the grass nearby. Despite the abrupt nature of the incident, the aircraft maintained a relatively low speed, minimizing potential damage.

Airport operator Avinor confirmed the incident and the subsequent damage to the aircraft, stating that inspections routine of the runway had revealed parts of the plane scattered across the area. The airport remained closed throughout the evening and into Sunday as authorities worked to remove the damaged aircraft and clear the runway.
