The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested 44-year-old South Korean national Park Junhyeon on charges of involvement in a telecommunications fraud. Operatives from the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) took Park into custody on June 28, 2016, along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City. He is currently being held at the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility while awaiting deportation proceedings.

Did You Know? Park Junhyeon is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued on May 7, 2026, which was prompted by a fraud warrant issued by the Busan District Court in South Korea.

The Fraud Allegations

According to South Korean authorities, Park and his accomplices allegedly orchestrated a “no-show” scam. The scheme involved posing as businessmen who promised to reimburse victims for goods purchased on their behalf. Investigations indicate the group conducted 24 fraudulent transactions, allegedly defrauding seven individuals of approximately KRW170 million.

Immigration Status and Arrest

Park entered the Philippines on December 12, 2025 as a temporary visitor. BI records show his authorized stay expired on June 9, 2026. Prior to his arrest, a representative applied for an extension of his stay and submitted his passport to the Angeles Field Office; however, authorities noted that Park failed to appear in person during this process.

The BI has subsequently placed Park on its watchlist as an undesirable alien. Regarding the enforcement action, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated, “Individuals who prey on innocent victims through deception and organized fraud have no place in our country. We will continue working closely with our international law enforcement partners to track them down and ensure they are held accountable.”

What happens next?

Following his arrest, Park is undergoing standard booking and documentation procedures. The operation to apprehend him involved coordination between the BI, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR), and the Department of Justice.
