Born in Sofia on July 25, 1970, Kurtev was a graduate of the National Music School "Lubomir Pipkov" and later pursued higher education at the National Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov". His musical journey began at an early age, culminating in the formation of ‘Aagoza’ in 1992 during his student years, alongside fellow academy students.
Kurtev was not just a co-founder of ‘Aagoza’; he was the band’s driving force, serving as its vocalist and bassist. His creative vision shaped the band’s unique sound, a compelling blend of funk, rock, dance, soul, reggae, and even hip-hop. ‘Aagoza’ released six studio albums, with their latest, ’20 Years’, coming out in 2011.
The news of Kurtev’s passing was met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from his peers and fans alike. Music journalist Kamen Aliyev shared a moving post on Facebook, expressing his heartache and remembering Kurtev as a friend and colleague. Fellow musician Yasen Velchev, who was also a part of ‘Aagoza’, paid respects to Kurtev, writing, "Farewell, Kraisi Kurtev. Thank you for the music and the friendship."
Vladimir Ampov, better known by his stage name ‘Grafa’, wrote, "Goodbye, Kraisi Kurtev. Thank you for the music and the friendship," accompanied by a post reflecting on their shared memories. Orlin Pavlov also expressed his condolences, saying, "May God rest his soul."
‘Aagoza’ is widely regarded as one of Bulgaria‘s most influential bands, having helped shape the country’s modern musical landscape. The band is known for its energetic live performances and has left an indelible mark on the Bulgarian music scene.
