Breaking News: Magnitude 3.3 Earthquake Rocks Gresik, East Java; BMKG Urges Caution Against Aftershocks
A magnitude 3.3 earthquake has struck Gresik, East Java, with the epicenter located on land, according to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, has been felt by residents, with no immediate reports of major damages or casualties.
The BMKG has advised residents in the affected area to remain vigilant and be prepared for possible aftershocks. "Aftershocks can still occur within a week of the main earthquake," the agency warned.
This is the second earthquake to hit East Java within a day. Earlier today, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded in Muara Binuangeun, Banten. Although the epicenter was in a different province, the tremors were felt as far away as the capital, Jakarta.
In both incidents, the BMKG has advised residents to stay calm and follow safety protocols during earthquakes. These include moving to an open area, away from buildings, and avoiding elevators, electrical appliances, and gas sources.
As of now, there are no reports of casualties or significant damages from today’s earthquake in Gresik. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents to remain vigilant.
