Latvia continues to bolster Ukraine’s resilience with a recent delivery of vehicles and equipment aimed at restoring critical energy infrastructure. The Latvian Minister for Climate and Energy, Kaspars Melnis, alongside Ilze Znotiņa of AS “Augstsprieguma tīkls” (AST), participated in the delivery with volunteer drivers from the “Twitter Convoy” organization.
Support for Ukraine’s Energy Grid
AST donated 21 vehicles to Ukraine at the end of the year, valued at over EUR 100,000. This donation is part of an ongoing effort to support Ukraine’s independence and repair damage to its energy infrastructure, which has been repeatedly targeted. The vehicles include both four-wheel-drive passenger vehicles and groundworks machinery.
This latest contribution follows earlier support from AST, including a shipment in autumn 2023 of high-voltage transmission equipment weighing 66 tonnes. That shipment included 330 kV transformers, 110 kV circuit breakers, disconnectors, surge arresters, and over 50 tonnes of transformer oil. Previously, AST also delivered insulators and minibuses.
Humanitarian Aid Alongside Infrastructure
The delivery coordinated by the “Twitter Convoy” also included gifts for children in the Chernihiv region. These gifts were prepared by employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and intended for children staying in social and psychological rehabilitation centres in Nizhyn, Khmilnyk and Chernihiv.
At the beginning of 2024, AST donated 22 vehicles, including truck-mounted lifts, passenger cars, trailers, off-road quad bikes and other transport units. The donation was supplemented with an additional seven vehicles at the end of the year.
