Russia’s Lavrov: We’re Ready for Ukraine Talks, But Want Concrete Proposals
Moscow, Apr 11 – Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has declared that Russia is not disengaging from talks with Ukraine, but is awaiting "serious, specific proposals." In a recent interview on a Russian propaganda program, Lavrov stated that Russia is open to dialogue, but only on its terms.
"We’re not avoiding talks about Ukraine. However, we need to see serious, concrete offers on the table," Lavrov said. The Russian minister’s remarks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposals have not been considered as preconditions for peaceful negotiations.
Lavrov also emphasized that Russia does not harbor illusions about an easy resolution in Ukraine and will not agree to a ceasefire without legally binding agreements. Meanwhile, he reiterated Russia’s stance that there are no winners in a nuclear war, warning that Russia’s patience should not be tested.
Earlier this month, President Putin expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with Ukraine, but only with a legitimate leadership and based on the 2022 Istanbul agreements, considering the current battlefield situation.
