"Legislative Body Receives Bill Mandating Clear, Per-Unit Pricing: Ukraine News Update"

Headline: Ukraine’s Parliament Moves to Mandate ‘Price per Liter/Kilogram’ Labeling for Consumer Clarity

Ukraine’s Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has taken a significant stride toward enhancing consumer transparency with the registration of a bill requiring traders to indicate prices per liter or kilogram, regardless of packaging size. This move aligns with the EU’s Directive 98/6/EC, aiming to provide consumers with clearer and more useful pricing information.

Dmitro Gurin, a member of parliament and the primary author of the bill, has previously stated that this legislation could potentially phase out irregularly sized packaging, such as the notorious 850ml milk bottles. The bill proposes amendments to Article 15 of the Law "On the Protection of Consumer Rights," thereby obligating traders to display prices per unit of volume or weight in their pricing labels. Notably, this requirement does not extend to the producers or the packaging sizes of their goods.

While some major national retailers currently adopt this practice, it is set to become a legal requirement once the bill is ratified. This new law aims to empower consumers by making it easier for them to compare prices and make informed purchasing decisions.
