LEGO Sagrada Familia Breaks Piece Count Record
The new LEGO Sagrada Familia (21065) contains 12,060 pieces, making it the largest LEGO set in history by total brick count. Ábíčko.cz reported that this architectural model surpasses previous record-holders, such as the World Map with 11,695 pieces and the Eiffel Tower, which features 10,001 bricks.
Physical Dimensions Compared to the Super Star Destroyer
While the Sagrada Familia holds the record for the number of individual pieces, it does not claim the title for the largest physical dimensions. The model stands 62 cm tall, 47 cm wide, and 39 cm deep. In contrast, the LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer of Darth Vader (75457) remains the most expansive set in terms of sheer size, measuring 136 cm in length.
Mirroring Construction Phases of the Basilica
The set, designed in a 1:278 scale, aims to mirror the actual construction phases of the basilica in Barcelona. Antoni Gaudí, the architect behind the monument, began the project in 1882. While the structure remains an ongoing project, this year marked the completion of the main section to honor the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death. The LEGO model incorporates specialized colored bricks within the interior to replicate the basilica’s stained-glass windows, creating visual light effects within the finished build.
Categorizing the Architectural Set for Adult Collectors
LEGO categorizes the Sagrada Familia as an 18+ collector’s item. Because it is a premium architectural set, it does not include minifigures, focusing instead on the technical building experience. The set is part of a November release cycle that features four new models, including a Dragon Ball-themed set and a Venetian district.
