Store Locator & Hours”>Lidl Opens New ‘Outlet‘ Store in Prague, Causes a Stir
PRAHA – Popular retail chain Lidl caused quite a commotion outside its national borders this past Thursday (2nd February), as it opened its first Lidl Outlet store in the Czech capital. The new outlet, located in the Retail Park Štěrboholy on Kutnohorská Street, covers an area of 1,700 square meters and offers a wide range of discounted and bargain goods.
The official opening had locals eagerly waiting in a 70-meter-long queue, a testament to the Czech public’s love for affordable and bargain shopping. According to Czech news portal iDnes.cz, the long line formed even before the store’s opening.
A New Shopping Experience
The new outlet store in Prague is a departure from Lidl’s traditional retail stores. It focuses on athalonka offers great deals on a wide range of items. The store offers a mix of fashion, homeware, electronics, and other durable goods, all at discounted prices ranging from 40% to 70% off.
"Our customers will find all new, faultless, and significantly discounted items," Lidl representatives stated in a press release. "The assortment will be regularly replenished every week, reflecting the current markdowns."
Lidl Czech Republic’s spokesperson, Eliška Froschová Stehlíková, shared that the outlet’s aim is to create a stable sales channel for goods that need to make way for new stock in Lidl’s conventional stores. She added that the concept draws inspiration from similar successful outlets in countries like Hungary, Portugal, and Spain. If the Prague outlet proves successful, more could be opened across the Czech Republic.
A Disappointing Fate on Slovak Soil
While the Czech outlet seems to be off to a strong start, Lidl’s attempts at introducing such stores on Slovak soil have been less successful. In 2019, Lidl opened an outlet store in Ilava but closed it after just a few months. A similar fate befell another outlet store opened in Liptovský Hrádok earlier this year. Lidl has since stated that these were temporary endeavors. It remains to be seen how such a store would fare if opened in larger Slovak cities like Bratislava.
The Czech Republic’s first Lidl Outlet store promises a new shopping experience for bargain hunters, with long lines signaling high interest and potential success.
