Limerick amnesty driver Eamonn features on this week’s episode of the new RTÉ One series Random Driving Test, the Limerick Leader reported. The 65-year-old received his driver’s license through a 1979 amnesty and never took a standard driving test, prompting him to step behind the wheel of a test car for the first time.
Eamonn Faces Real Test Routes and Surprise Hazards on RTÉ One
Hosted by Irish comedian PJ Gallagher, Random Driving Test visits 12 different test routes across Ireland. The series challenges experienced, licensed drivers to prove whether they could pass the modern exam if they had to take it today. Eamonn is joined on the upcoming episode by Hanna, a rally driver from Dundalk.
During the assessment, participants handle hill starts, turnabouts, reversing around corners, tricky junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights, and unexpected surprise hazards. Brian Harnett, a former senior RSA tester who has conducted more than 25,000 driving tests, oversees the evaluations as the show’s resident Super Tester.
Cash Deductions for Every Driving Fault
Contestants on the show start with a cash total of €1,000. Each driving fault results in a €100 deduction from that initial sum. Accumulating nine faults leads to an immediate fail, leaving the driver with nothing. Keeping faults below nine allows the participant to retain the remaining cash.
The episode featuring Eamonn airs on RTÉ One on Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m.
