In an unexpected turn of events, Smer-SD party leader and former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has reappeared after a two-week absence, enjoying a lavish stay at Hanoi’s Capella Hotel in Vietnam. The British daily, Daily Mail, was the first to report this surprising development.
Fico, a close European ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, had been conspicuous by his absence following his visit to Moscow. His disappearance came at a time when Slovakia was grappling with massive opposition protests, fueled by his meeting with Putin and his government’s pro-Russian stance on Ukraine.
While Fico’s whereabouts remained a mystery, he occasionally shared cryptic videos on social media, featuring only curtains, offering no clues about his location. It took journalists two weeks to uncover his winter getaway in the Vietnamese capital.
The former PM is reportedly enjoying the "Madame Butterfly" suite, commanding a staggering €5,900 per night – nearly four times the average monthly salary in Slovakia. The Capella Hotel, a five-star luxury establishment, seems to have provided Fico with the perfect sanctuary from the political storm back home.
