Manhattan Manhunt: Suspect Charged with Three Murders, Including Alleged Terror Homicide
A 26-year-old man, Alessandro Mangione, has been indicted on an 11-count indictment, including three murder charges, one of which is alleged to be a terror-related homicide. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges, reports Reuters. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Mangione’s defense attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, has declined to comment on the case.
This is the second time Mangione has appeared in a New York court since his arrest at a food truck in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after the murder of Thompson. The health insurance executive was fatally shot outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel where his company was hosting an investor conference.
In addition to the state charges in New York, Mangione also faces a federal indictment with four counts. The federal charges include pursuit and murder of Thompson. Mangione has not yet been asked to plead to these additional charges. The federal indictment opens the door for the possibility of capital punishment if Manhattan’s district attorney’s office chooses to seek it.
The alleged terror connection in this high-stakes case has not been detailed in court filings, leaving residents and observers anxious for more information. As the investigation continues, news outlets across the city remain on standby, ready to break new developments as they unfold.
