Macklemore’s newly announced international concert run, the “Free Palestine Tour,” sold out its Dublin, Paris, and London dates within hours of tickets going on sale, according to TMZ. The rapid ticket sales follow the rapper’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s “Loop” Tour and subsequent pledge to donate $1 million in net earnings to humanitarian organizations supporting Palestinians.
Dublin, Paris, and London Dates Sell Out Rapidly
Fans reported on social media that tickets vanished almost instantly despite two earlier presales, leaving several individuals who were high in the virtual queue unable to secure entry. Following Dublin, Macklemore is scheduled to perform at Paris’ Accor Arena on October 29 and London’s OVO Arena Wembley on October 30. Macklemore stated that he was “blown away” by the overwhelming public response to the rapidly organized tour.
Tour Emerges Following Ed Sheeran Tour Departure
The overseas dates were assembled after Macklemore was dropped from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s tour amid backlash over his public pro-Palestinian comments. Sheeran later clarified that the decision to remove Macklemore came from the tour promoter after several host venues indicated they would not permit the rapper to perform. In solidarity with Macklemore, several supporting acts subsequently withdrew from Sheeran’s remaining dates, including Irish acts Aaron Rowe and Beoga, alongside Finneas and the Danish band Lukas Graham. Macklemore responded to the cancellation by stating that when people in power attempt to silence calls for liberation, “art will always be a form of resistance.”
Humanitarian Pledges and Beneficiary Organizations
The tour builds on financial commitments made by the artist following his exit from the “Loop” Tour. Macklemore pledged $1 million from his earnings to six organizations supporting Palestinians and publicly challenged New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to match the donation. Kraft subsequently pledged $2 million toward humanitarian aid in the region. Beneficiaries listed for the Dublin concert include Anera, Gaza Soup Kitchen, HEAL Palestine, Medical Aid for Palestinians, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. Macklemore indicated that lineups and additional artists for the sold-out dates remain forthcoming.
