Magnicity Eyes Vancouver for New World-Class Observation Deck

Paris-based observation attraction operator Magnicity is actively scouting Vancouver as a potential expansion market for a high-altitude visitor destination. According to CEO Alexia Vettier and deputy general manager for finance and development Hervé Cacheur, the company is seeking to integrate immersive, multi-level experiences into the upper floors of future tall towers, aiming to move beyond simple panoramic views to create landmark cultural and social hubs.

Why Global Operators are Targeting Vancouver

Magnicity, which operates landmark sites including the Berlin TV Tower and 360 Chicago, views Vancouver as a strategic North American priority. This interest aligns with ambitious growth targets from Destination Vancouver, which aims to increase the local tourism industry’s value from $9 billion to $11 billion. According to Cacheur, the city’s combination of dramatic natural geography and a growing urban skyline makes it a compelling candidate for a modern, purpose-built attraction.

The company’s model represents a shift from traditional observation decks. While historically these spaces relied solely on the view, Magnicity now prioritizes “the experience.” This includes integrating food and beverage, retail, educational programming, and event spaces. As Vettier noted, the goal is to provide “emotion, meaning, and lasting memories” that encourage both tourists and local residents to return.

Magnicity’s transformation of the Montparnasse Tower in Paris will include a three-level observation attraction featuring a fully covered outdoor level and a semi-enclosed garden with trees, moving away from the tower’s original dark-glass aesthetic.

The Challenge of Retrofitting Tall Towers

This approach is currently being applied to the expansion of 360 Chicago, where the company is nearly tripling its footprint to nearly 50,000 square feet with a design led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
