At least 309,707 individuals across 62,000 families in Maguindanao del Sur have been affected by widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Inday and the southwest monsoon, according to a provincial situational report. As of July 10, the floods impacted 159 barangays across 19 municipalities, with recovery and relief operations currently underway.
Scale of Impact Across Maguindanao del Sur
The provincial government identified Datu Piang as the most affected municipality, reporting 37,180 affected individuals. Other heavily impacted areas include Datu Saudi Ampatuan with 36,150 people, Mamasapano with 30,475, and Datu Salibo with 30,090. Additional significant figures were recorded in Shariff Saydona Mustapha (29,285), Sultan sa Barongis (28,275), and Datu Abdullah Sangki (20,700).
Beyond the displacement of residents, critical infrastructure has suffered. In Sultan sa Barongis, facilities including the Bulod Public Market, Tukanakuden Elementary School, a day care center, a barangay hall, and a solar dryer were reported as totally damaged or unusable. Datu Piang also reported flooding in multiple schools, the Rural Health Unit, and various barangay health stations and halls.
Search and Relief Operations
Provincial administrator Datu Nur Ali Midtimbang confirmed that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) began distributing relief packs immediately following the onset of the floods. Initial operations focused on remote areas like Barangay Tugal and Barangay Angkayamat, with subsequent aid reaching Talayan, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, and Guindulungan.
PDRRMO teams continued distribution efforts through Saturday, covering municipalities including Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Datu Unsay, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Datu Piang, Datu Salibo, Rajah Buayan, Ampatuan, Pandag, and Paglat. Amid these efforts, authorities are searching for a 70-year-old resident, Alibasa Sanday, who was reported missing in Barangay Tamar, Talayan.
Current Weather Outlook and Potential Recovery
According to PAGASA, Typhoon Inday exited the Philippine area of responsibility at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. As of 11:00 a.m. Sunday, the state weather bureau had not issued any heavy rainfall warnings for Mindanao.
