The tragedy occurred on Saturday shortly after 11:00 a.m. in a wooded, difficult-to-access terrain near Karlovice. According to reports covered by Novinky.cz, the victim was likely stung by a wasp or a hornet. The encounter triggered a rapid allergic reaction, leading swiftly to circulatory collapse.
A bystander at the scene initiated immediate first aid and performed resuscitation before emergency crews arrived. A crew from Vrbno pod Pradědem and a physician-led team from Bruntál deployed to the remote location to take over life-saving efforts.

Despite coordinated resuscitation efforts by both the civilian witness and professional medical personnel, the victim could not be revived. “Despite the maximum effort of all, it was not possible to restore the life functions of the 54-year-old man, and the doctor had to state his death,” said Lukáš Humpl, spokesperson for the Moravian-Silesian Region Emergency Medical Service.
Emergency medical services across the Moravian-Silesian Region responded to a total of seven calls regarding insect stings on Saturday. While the other incidents did not result in fatalities, two patients were treated and released to home care. Four additional individuals, ranging in age from seven to 64 years old, received emergency medical treatment and were subsequently transported to hospitals for observation.
