Brutal Home Robbery: Elderly Man Beaten and Mugged in Laskovets
In the run-up to the holidays, an elderly man from Laskovets found himself on the receiving end of a brutal and terrifying experience. The 65-year-old retiree, Jordan Jordanov, was robbed and severely beaten in his own home, leaving him with no choice but to refuse medical treatment due to his lack of financial resources.
The assailant, later identified as Osman, a 36-year-old with a history of theft, had been watching Jordanov and saw him giving money to a neighbor to buy groceries. Taking advantage of this information, Osman invaded Jordanov’s home and demanded money at knifepoint.
"I gave him the 80 leva I had," Jordanov recounted, fear etched into his voice. "He just kept saying, ‘Give me money, give me money’ and hitting me with his fists."
Jordanov relies on his late wife’s pension, amounting to 360 lev a month, as he was unable to secure his own retirement. The attacker made off with the 80 lev, leaving Jordanov with numerous facial and bodily injuries.
Fortunately, the police from Gorna Oryahovitsa swung into action and arrested Osman the same night. Despite being registered for past thefts, he currently faces no convictions. Following his arrest, just a day before Christmas, Osman returned Jordanov’s money and the equivalent lev of his broken phone, which he had taken and damaged during the attack to prevent Jordanov from calling for help.
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office has since charged Osman with theft and placed him under a guarantee not to leave. The community abrasively denounces such acts of violence against vulnerable individuals, especially during this festive season. Let this serve as a stark reminder to stand vigilant against such crimes and to support those affected by them.
