Security Breach at Mar-a-Lago
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. When a man entered the security perimeter of the estate. President Donald Trump and the First Lady were at the White House in Washington at the time.
Authorities say the man, described as white and in his 20s, was carrying a shotgun and a gasoline can. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, the man was ordered to drop the items by a deputy and two Secret Service agents. He then reportedly raised the shotgun.
The deputy and agents opened fire and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The agents involved were wearing body cameras, Bradshaw stated.
The FBI is leading the investigation, collecting evidence and examining the man’s background and motives. His name has not been released pending family notification.
Authorities have asked residents in the area to review their outdoor cameras and contact authorities if they observe anything suspicious.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
