Marius Borg Høiby was attacked in his residence on the royal estate of Skaugum by an unknown man in his thirties, nos.nl reported.
The incident took place just before midnight on Friday. The intruder banged on the door of the 29-year-old Høiby, who opened it. The man then tried to force his way inside, but Høiby managed to push him back outside. The police subsequently overpowered the man.
Norwegian media write that the intruder has mental health problems, according to nos.nl. Today, the police announced they will investigate the case, with the suspect suspected of assault and domestic trespassing.
When asked by the Norwegian newspaper VG why the police did not open a case immediately, a police spokesperson stated that “new information has come to light today,” nos.nl reported.

King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit live elsewhere on the estate and were not endangered, nos.nl stated. Høiby is the son of Mette-Marit from a previous relationship and holds no official role within the Norwegian royal house.
Høiby has stayed at Skaugum with an electronic monitor since July, following a summer sentence to four years in prison for two rapes and domestic abuse against an ex-girlfriend, according to nos.nl. He appealed that conviction, and the appeal trial begins in February.
The Oslo district court decided on Monday to release Høiby from custody because he considers the current situation “unbearable” for private reasons. The public prosecutor’s office immediately appealed out of fear that Høiby would relapse and commit new offenses.

The court of appeal overturned the release on Wednesday. During detention, Høiby undergoes regular checks for drug and alcohol use, and the court indicated he recently violated a condition by testing positive for alcohol.
Høiby explained that he had consumed “partly mouthwash and partly fermented apple juice.”

He wears an electronic monitor on the estate and was briefly granted release before an appeals court reversed the decision due to an alcohol test violation.
