Morocco Celebrates International Argan Tree Day, Aims to Strengthen Its Strategic Role
The Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, presided over the 6th edition of the International Argan Tree Day in Essaouira province on Sunday, May 10. This event showcased Morocco’s efforts to preserve and develop this iconic ecosystem. In his speech, Minister El Bouari emphasized the strategic importance of the argan tree as a bulwark against hydric stress and climate change.
The event also saw the signing of several agreements between the National Agency for the Development of Oases and Argan (ANDZOA) and its partners. These agreements focus on climate financing, carbon credit valorization and innovative projects that benefit territories.
In parallel, Ahmed El Bouari also chaired the closing ceremony of the 8th edition of the International Argan Tree Congress, which brought together nearly 500 participants to discuss environmental, economic, and technological challenges facing the sector. More than 130 scientific contributions were presented, highlighting the growing interest in this ecosystem.
Subsequently, Minister El Bouari visited several projects under the Generation Green strategy. A 118 million dirham arganiculture program benefits 12 communes and nearly 2,500 farmers in the province. Ten solidarity agriculture projects were launched with a total investment of 132 million dirhams, benefiting over 7,000 beneficiaries. These initiatives aim to boost rural incomes, support cooperatives, and encourage youth and women’s involvement.
