Maureen Fitzsimons, a resident of Clogher, Westport, and formerly of The Curragh, Castlebar, passed away peacefully on the 23rd of August following a long illness, according to the family notices. She spent her final days receiving exceptional care at The Pilgrims Rest Nursing Home.

Funeral Arrangements and Memorial Services

Services for Maureen Fitzsimons are scheduled to begin with reposing at Navin’s Funeral Home in Westport on Friday, 28th August, starting at 5 o’clock. Her removal will take place at 6:30 to St. Mary’s Church in Westport. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Saturday morning, 29th August, at 11 o’clock, followed by burial at Kilmaclasser Cemetery.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Michael, and her four daughters: Muriel, who is married to Dean Matsuura in the USA; Maura, married to John Killeen in Claremorris; Helen, based in Sligo; and Deirdre, residing in Westport. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Ellen Joyce, her young daughter Sinead, and her sons-in-law Tom Bradley and Frank Martin.

In addition to her husband and daughters, she leaves behind 15 grandchildren—Michael, Sinead, Deirdre, Megan, Robert, Pearse, Sean, Jane, Mark, Ruth, Kate, Luke, Sara, Elisabeth, and Liam. Her surviving family also includes her sister Nancy McKnight, based in Galway, alongside sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours, and friends. The community has shared traditional expressions of sympathy, including the Irish phrase “Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam.”
