Acapulco Tirolesa Accident: Two Injured as Ferris Wheel Tower Collapses During Acapulco Fair
In a harrowing incident at the Acapulco Fair, two men were left injured when a tower of the tire gondola ride in one of the fairground’s mechanical games collapsed. The affected individuals, identified as Aldo Maldonado Gomora, 35, from the State of Mexico, and Iván Gómez Solís, 36, of Guerrero State, were subsequently transported to the local Aqua Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Witnesses narrated that at least one gas tank showed signs of leakage following the mishap, with the fallen tower partly concealed by personnel of the National Guard who had arrived at the scene. According to the available information, the victims were transported to a hospital in Acapulco via the emergency vehicle PC-133 by state civil protection staff.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, emergency services including the Guerrero State Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Secretariat (SGIRyPC) personnel, as well as local Acapulco Fire Department personnel, rushed to the scene.
The tower, components of the fair’s games, and other various attractions were reported to lack the necessary safety surveillance and procedures needed for proper functioning and operation, as found by SGIRyPC Guerrero personnel.
It was specified that the incident transpired when one of the fair’s tire gondola rides malfunctioned and collapsed upon one of its towers while in operation, reportedly due to inadequate anchoring in the ground.
Arriving at the scene around 9:45 PM, the president of the Tourism Commission of the Acapulco City Council, Sofía Corona, was present. However, the Coordination General of Civil Protection for Acapulco, Efrén Valdez, was not observed at the scene.
The area was temporarily cordoned off with caution tape, but other games on site continued to function unabated without restriction.
The accident underscores the importance of stringent safety precautions and regular maintenance checks for public attractions, especially during peak visitor seasons in coastal destinations like Acapulco. Authorities are urged to implement stricter safety regulations to prevent such incidents.
