Headline: Metro Jaya Police to Forcefully Summon Former KPK Head Firli Bahuri in SYL Bribery Case
In a significant update to a convoluted corruption case, the Metro Jaya Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has announced plans to summon former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Firli Bahuri for a third time, potentially using force. This decision comes after Firli missed the previous two summoned, as reported by Kompas.com.
Director of Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak, confirmed this development on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. "If he fails to appear without a valid reason, we have two options according to the Criminal Procedural Code: to conduct a forced summon or to issue a warrant for his arrest," Ade said.
Firli, who was named a suspect in a bribery case involving former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo on November 22, 2023, is currently the only suspect in the case. Despite thorough investigations involving 160 witnesses, no other suspects have been identified.
The upcoming summon marks a crucial turn in the case, as Firli, who has evaded interrogations thus far, could potentially provide crucial evidence or clarify his role in the alleged crime. Ade mentioned that the date for the forced summon has not been decided yet, but they would coordinate closely with the Prosecutor’s office to expedite the case.
In another significant development, Firli is also entangled in another case involving a meeting with SYL at a badminton court. In this case, Firli is a witness, despite the case proceeding to the investigation stage.
Firli faces charges under article 12e and/or 12B or article 11 of Law Number 31/1999 on Corruption Eradication, along with elements of article 65 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) for both cases. Should he fail to cooperate, prosecutors may apply article 36 in combination with article 65 of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law.
