An associate of Meléndez identified as Diego Sebastián “N” is accused of being the probable perpetrator, while a second man identified as Gerardo “N” is also under investigation, according to the prosecutor’s office. Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, stated that one of the suspects exploited his relationship with one of the victims to enter the home.
Police discovered the victims late Tuesday night inside an upscale apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza in the State of Mexico. The victims included 35-year-old Jonathan Meléndez, his 35-year-old wife Ana Paula—who was four months pregnant—their 3-year-old daughter, and a 21-year-old nanny named Aleida Romero Victorio. A family dog was also found dead with its legs bound at the scene.

Investigators determined the killings occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office, three of the victims, including the young girl, sustained gunshot wounds to the heads, while a fourth victim was shot in the back. Two of the victims were found with their hands bound.
