According to the organization, Leyva Aguilar is the seventh media professional killed in the Latin American country this year.

Leyva Aguilar was widely known for his critical reporting regarding local authorities, prior to being gunned down in a restaurant. According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the journalist had formerly managed a regional television station.
