Handlogten’s journey is well-known, but his decision to forgo a medical redshirt in the final stretch of last season to support his team proved crucial in Florida’s path to a national championship. “It meant a lot to hear the crowd roar,” Handlogten said. “Just to have so many people here that have witnessed my story and seeing how I handled my lows, but also how I handled my highs…that feeling meant a lot.”
Unexpected Start, Continued Success
Handlogten found himself in the starting lineup against Mississippi State after Thomas Haugh was ruled out. He responded with 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists in Florida’s 108-74 victory. “When you start me at the four and (Alex Condon) at the three, we’ve never done that even in practice,” Handlogten said. “Like ever. It definitely took some adjustments.”
Florida’s current record stands at 24-6, with a 15-2 record in the SEC, and the team is currently on a 10-game winning streak. True freshman CJ Ingram contributed to the win over Mississippi State, knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers.

“I’d say the comparison is last year, I experience like we were very offense-oriented,” Handlogten said. “You had three of the best guards in the country just firing on all cylinders on the offensive complete.” He added that this year’s team has focused on a defensive identity, aiming to wear opponents down and uncover success through stops and fast breaks.
