Microsoft Launches MAI-Cyber-1-Flash and Perception Security Platform

Microsoft has launched MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, a new cybersecurity-specialised AI model, alongside a multi-agent security platform named Perception at an event in San Francisco, according to company disclosures. The releases extend the MDASH multi-agent security system, which began rolling out to South African customers earlier this year, and place Microsoft into direct competition with Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI on enterprise AI security.

MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is designed to identify complex vulnerabilities in software codebases and powers the MDASH software vulnerability identification and remediation harness, according to Microsoft. Perception deploys agentic teams to help defenders identify and fix bugs while integrating with MDASH. Both products will be available in preview starting November 3.

According to Suleyman, the MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model paired with OpenAI’s GPT 5.4 inside the MDASH harness outperforms Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s GPT 5.5 Cyber and GPT 5.6 Sol, and Anthropic’s Mythos 5 on Cyber Gym, a benchmark he described as the industry standard for AI cybersecurity performance. Suleyman stated that Microsoft is shipping the technology into production immediately.

According to Weston, work that previously required hours of manual effort across specialized security roles now executes in minutes, handling tasks from discovery and prioritization to posture fixing and code remediation.

The enterprise rollout follows data from a Boston Consulting Group report titled “AI Is Raising the Stakes in Cybersecurity.” The report found that nearly 60% of African companies experienced AI-enabled cyberattacks in the past year, while only half prioritized AI in their defenses. Furthermore, just 29% implemented advanced AI-driven cybersecurity tools, and only 3% reported a significant cybersecurity budget increase to address AI threats.

Microsoft’s Digital Defence Report previously noted that AI-enabled phishing emails are 4.5 times more likely to be clicked than traditional attempts. On the workforce side, 82% of African organizations surveyed by BCG reported struggles in hiring AI-cybersecurity talent. Microsoft has attempted to address this shortfall through initiatives like its cybersecurity skills campaign, Ikamva Digital delivery across South African TVET colleges, and its Secure Now program.

The new offerings enter a crowded market.
