Final Day Thrills: Team Canada at Milano Cortina 2026
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are drawing to a close, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 2:30 PM EST. However, before the Olympic flame is extinguished, several medal opportunities remain for Team Canada.
Bobsleigh: A Final Push for Glory
Competition at the Cortina Sliding Centre will conclude with the final two runs of the four-man bobsleigh. The third run is set for 4:00 AM EST, followed by the fourth run at 6:15 AM EST. Taylor Austin, alongside Keaton Bruggeling, Mike Evelyn O’Higgins, and Shaq Murray-Lawrence, currently stand in 14th place after the first two runs. Jay Dearborn and his team of Yohan Eskrick Parkinson, Luka Stoikos, and Mark Zanette are in 19th position.
Cross-Country Skiing: A Historic Race
For the first time in Winter Olympic history, women will compete in a 50km mass start race. Previously held at 30km, the event now mirrors the men’s mass start format. Katherine Stewart-Jones, Sonjaa Schmidt, Jasmine Drolet, and Amelia Wells will represent Canada in this challenging event, starting at 4:00 AM EST.
Ice Hockey: Gold Medal Showdown
Team Canada will face the United States in the gold medal game for men’s hockey at 8:10 AM EST. This marks the first time the two rivals will meet in a tournament featuring NHL players since last year’s Four Nations Face-Off, which Canada won. Canada hasn’t won Olympic gold in men’s hockey since the last time NHL players participated, at the 2014 Sochi Games.
Freestyle Skiing: Delayed Final
Heavy snowfall has forced the postponement of the women’s halfpipe final, now scheduled for 4:40 AM EST on Sunday. Rachael Karker, Amy Fraser, and Cassie Sharpe were among the 12 qualifiers, but Sharpe has confirmed she will be unable to compete after sustaining a concussion during a fall in her second qualifying run. Each skier will perform three runs in the final, with only their best score counting towards the final standings.
