Miley Cyrus Announces Tenth Studio Album Bass Persuades for September 18

Ten albums deep into a restless pop career, Miley Cyrus is shaking up the rollout for her next era. The singer announced her upcoming tenth studio record just 17 days ahead of its launch, marking her first release for Atlantic Records following her move from Columbia. The project arrives slightly less than 18 months after 2025’s Something Beautiful.

Miley Cyrus – now known as just Miley – is kicking off a new era. In the announcement, she described music as "powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong" and said the title covers everything from a full heart to heartbreak, according to Variety. Miley shared a message about the title’s meaning on Instagram when announcing the name and album cover of Bass Persuades, stating, "My tenth studio album, BASS PERSUADES, is yours September 18th. Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album."

Cyrus had already discussed the record before revealing its title. During a conversation with Daryl Hannah for Wonderland, she described it as a love story that includes romance but is not limited to it. "A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records," Cyrus said, explaining that the album also reflects changes in her relationship with herself.

The "Bass Persuades" music video premiered Thursday (September 3) at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Miley‘s official YouTube channel. And the key takeaway from the "Bass Persuades" lyrics? She’s calling for people to put down their phones and live in the moment.

The line "Paving over pastures ’cause horses are gone" alludes to the old making way for the new, and things getting lost along the way, but forgetting all about those troubles when "this record is on." That desire for escapism continues with, "Spin it for a minute, make it all disappear/ If we ain’t moving baby, baby, why are we here?" Obvi, this could be referencing that feeling when you fully embrace the music and forget about the world for a minute, but it could be far more existential — if you’re not moving, dancing, and participating in what’s around you, what’s the point of anything? Nowhere is the ethos of the song more clear than in the chorus, which starts by repeating the same line over again, emphasizing, "The kids don’t wanna dance, the kids don’t wanna dance (Mhm)/ The kids don’t wanna dance, the kids don’t wanna dance." Whether this lack of dancing is due to missing out on all the new hits to dance to while doomscrolling or out of fear of appearing "cringe," the takeaway is clear: Gen Zers (aka "the kids") don’t frequent clubs as often as previous generations. Verse 2 also feels like a direct callout, with no way to avoid a bit of self-reflection. "Bass Persuades," the opening and title track of her latest LP, hit reset in a more misleading way. The track is built around the defeated sentiment that "the kids don’t wanna dance" — rich coming from an artist who avoids the stage like a plague despite being one of the most charismatic performers we have. "Bass Persuades" diminished a lot of faith in the record for some fans, but don’t be fooled, as Bass Persuades is so much sharper than its lead single let on.

Collaborations With Model/Actriz and Andrew Wyatt

‘Bass Persuades’ has 10 tracks and two featured collaborations. The album opens with "Bass Persuades" and closes with "Bass Persuades Remixx." MODEL/ACTRIZ appears on "Different Religion," while Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow is featured on "Neon Signs." The remaining songs are "Let’s Get Married," "Orbit," "Aftermath," "REDLIGHTS," "Innocent Ways" and "Snow."

In "Orbit," she floats over the Pink Floyd-style synths for a psychedelic prayer to orbit you forever. Despite the Dead Petz ambience, she swerves back into a down-home country twang to sing this one, which somehow makes it trippier.

Hollywood Bowl Debut in October

Cyrus also announced two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and 18 with MODEL/ACTRIZ as special guest. They will be her first performances at the Los Angeles venue and her first major concerts since the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City in November 2022. PEOPLE reports that the concerts will be Cyrus’s first major performances since Corona Capital in November 2022, noting she has appeared at special events and performances since then, but has not returned to a traditional large-scale concert schedule. MODEL/ACTRIZ already has a connection to Cyrus’s recent music.
