A harrowing incident unfolded on the Otterloseweg in Wekerom on Saturday evening, around 5:45 PM, when a car suddenly burst into flames. The driver fortunately managed to escape unharmed before the arrival of the Otterlo fire brigade.
The driver later revealed that the mishap occurred after accidentally filling the car with gasoline instead of diesel. As the car started to stutter during his journey towards Wekerom, he pulled over, and within moments, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
First responders from the fire department struggled to contain the blaze for over 45 minutes due to the ruptured fuel tank. The Otterloseweg remained closed to all traffic between Otterlo and Wekerom during the incident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Following the extinguishing of the fire, the charred vehicle was towed away by a recovery service. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
