Title: Oslo‘s Popular Akebakken in Myraløkka Marred by Misbegotten Mischief
The bustling akebakken (sledge hill) in Oslo’s Myraløkka park, a favorite among both young and old, faced an unexpected ordeal this past Saturday. A malicious prank left several thrill-seekers with more than just frigid winds biting at their heels.
"We’ve noticed that someone has removed a bench, leaving its metal legs sticking up like dangerous spikes," reveals Rune Hekkelstrand, Oslo Police District’s operations leader. The abandoned bench legs posed an insidious trap for unsuspecting sledgers, resulting in several accidental collisions throughout the day.
One 20-year-old woman was particularly unlucky. She suffered bone fractures after crashing into the exposed metal legs and was promptly transported to the hospital. An investigation into the incident has been launched, with charges expected to follow.
While the woman’s injuries were severe, police are still uncertain about any potential impact on younger visitors. They urge anyone with information regarding the bench’s removal to come forward.
In response to the incident, police have swiftly taken action to secure the area. A barrier has been erected, and the municipality, which owns the park, has been contacted. Contractors will work over the weekend to install a new, safer bench.
Hekkelstrand emphasizes the importance of diligence and caution when engaging in winter activities: "It’s crucial for everyone to maintain awareness of their surroundings and choose safe locations for such activities." Fortunately, the akebakken in Myraløkka is typically a safe and enjoyable spot for sledging, with the current incident being an aberration rather than a norm.
Finlande will remember this Saturday as a day when fun-filled sledging sessions turned into a cautionary tale, serving as a reminder that even the most innocent of pleasures can be overshadowed by careless actions.
